Mental Health: Making a Difference
One in five Australians will experience a mental illness or serious mood disorder during their lives. Every one of us is affected by the cost: emotionally, socially and financially.
You can help by joining others committed to bringing facts like these to the attention of the Victorian public and to decision-makers at all levels.
The Mental Health Foundation believes that mental illness should be no more difficult to talk about than diabetes or heart disease, nor should individuals with a mental illness be treated with any less respect. If we can remove the stigma, people will be able to ask for help without the fear of prejudice. In most cases, with prompt treatment and the right care, individuals can learn to manage their mental illness and be guided towards recovery.
The way people think about mental illness has already changed over the last 30 years. With a focused and informed effort, it's possible to change it still further.
Our organisation works to deepen understanding of the importance of mental wellbeing. Educating the community about available treatment options for mental illness is a large part of our brief, but our primary emphasis is on promoting good mental health and the means to maintain it.
By joining us, you will be part of a committed group of concerned citizens who want to see the care and treatment of people with mental illness improved. Your membership will support pro-active prevention programs and contribute to the development of healthy people and healthy communities.
Note. Your membership application may take up to 5 working days to process and will commence upon receipt of payment of the membership fee.
