MEDIA RELEASE – 9th October, 2016

Australia’s oldest, Victoria’s original not-for-profit, non-government mental health organisation celebrating Mental Health Week 2016

We are delighted to welcome the Hon. Martin Foley MP, Minister for Mental Health and the Hon. Tim Bull MP, Shadow Minister for Mental Health who will speak at the launch on issues surrounding the mental health sector.  With George Donikian and Tiffany Cherry as our event MC’s, Jason Ball, our AFL LGBTI MH advocate as keynote speaker, we will be having live entertainment from Wild at Heart and an arts exhibition.

The Foundation has programmed an exciting 2016 Mental Health Week official launch, Tuesday 11th October, an annual Victorian event since 1984. This year more than 20 community sponsors have already signed up to collaborate to bring this event to life.

In direct alignment with the response of the Federal Government to the National Mental Health Commission’s recommendations for mental health reform November 2015, The Foundation faces a reinvigorating time actively reorganizing how to serve our most vulnerable community members amongst us in a whole of life grass roots support and socially connected framework.

Building on a rich history of the Foundation’s creative arts, facilitation and growth of support groups, with a focus on DV and LGBTI community needs, the Board and staff are excited to work with the community in a wellness person-centric 21st Century supported care approach.

The Mental Health Week Launch will be held at the Deakin Edge Theatre, Federation Square, Melbourne on the 11th of October at 5.00pm to 7.30pm. All are welcome to this FREE EVENT.
